What is Roller Derby?

Modern roller derby is a full contact, amateur women’s  sport played on a flat track with quad roller skates. Two teams play in a series of two minute jams with each team trying to score as many points as possible. In each jam a team fields five skaters, four blockers and a jammer. The jammers try to score points by passing each skater on the opposing team,  one point per skater passed. The blockers attempt to stop the opponent’s jammer by getting in her way and blocking her with body checks.
